Fun Run This year we had a beautiful day for the annual Fun Run. 725 students, teachers, alumni, parents, and parishioners had a great time running and socializing. The school also presented a check for one- thousand dollars, and donations collected by the school to Christ Child Foundation. Thank you to Fun Run Committee led by Julie Cardillo, Jennifer Nykerk, Tegan Higgins, Tricia Ong, Deanne Siefert, Barb Bojan, Gilda Wachowiak, and Ann Lazar. Nice job to Ava Olah who sang the national anthem. The Fun Run was truly a wonderful community event!
Eighth grade Manresa Retreat The eighth grade students enjoyed their retreat at Manresa this past week. I was impressed that each group was led by a former St. Hugo student. It was a faith-filled day for our eight grade students.
Pictured here are former St. Hugo students, current Brother Rice students that assisted with the retreat: Michael Laurencelle, Brendan Flynn, Billy Nelson, Connor Pietsch, Parker Landis, and Charlie Carter.
Iowa Testing/Blue Ribbon Iowa Testing takes place October 2-13. Standardized test are a substantial gauge for students and schools. Recently, the current Superintendent of the AOD came in to encourage St. Hugo to apply for Blue Ribbon status based on our outstanding test scores. We are amongst the top two schools in the AOD out of 94 other Catholic elementary schools. Please let your student know the importance of this test and get plenty of sleep and a healthy breakfast.
Book Club Mrs. Braet does an outstanding job as a library teacher and with her after school book club. The students had a fun time celebrating their last book with a special treat this past Friday. Great job Mrs. Braet and her students.
Gina Rook I would like to welcome Gina Rook to our staff. Gina is working the front desk in the office to work on all of the fundraising events and to assist with school tours. Feel free to contact Mrs. Rook with any fundraising or admissions questions at email@example.com.
Box Tops We are still collecting Box Tops. Please bring them to the office. Eighth grade students have volunteered to help separate them. We also plan to have a school-wide competition later this year.
CYO I was able to catch two football and volleyball games this past week. Congratulations to both the varsity and junior varsity on convincing homecoming wins. The J.V. team defeated Country Day 26-7 as the team had key contributions from the entire team as the weather was in the 90 degree range. The varsity team was dominant over Shrine 28-0. Xaiver Chow caught a 60 yard touchdown on the first offensive series, and had two key sacks on defense. Ryan Browne had a touchdown run and a key interception. Congratulations to the 5/6 grade volleyball team who won all four of the games this past week. Come cheer them on this week: Monday, 9/25 5:00 at St Regis, Friday, 9/29 6:00 at Home vs St Joes, Sunday, 10/1 12 noon at Marist. Keep up the good work to all of our Viking athletes!
Duct Tape Charity A group of fifth grade girls will be selling some of their duct tape creations during lunch tomorrow. They have already created and sold some of their items. All money raised will go to the giving well at Mass.
