iRun4Kids Fun Run & Walk: We are less than a week away from our 4th Annual Fun Run and Walk and we are so pumped up! Please continue to turn in registration so we can reach our goal and bring our children the newest technology for our school. We are also looking for volunteers for our big day; if you want to be a part of this special event but feel you are more adept at helping than running we can use you! GIRLS ON THE RUN (GOTR) IS BACK! Girls in grades 3-5 are invited to participate in this program. We will begin the week of September 19th and end with a Fun Run on November 20. GOTR will be held immediately after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and end at 4:45 p.m. It a fun way to inspire girls to be healthy and confident. Register Online at www.gotrdetroit.org. WE ARE PLEASED to announce that Mr. Mike Quaine as the Booster Club president for the 2016-2017 school year. Mr. Quaine is looking for parents in grades 5-8 to serve as Booster Club liaison. As a liaison you would regularly attend Booster Club meetings and communicate athletic happenings to the board and parents. Contact Mike Quaine, 248-514-8000, if you are interested.

COMPUTER RECYCLING will take place Friday, September 30 – Sunday, October 2 from 8:30am – 5:00pm each day. As you organize for the new school year, please gather old computers, printers, and other electronic equipment and get them ready to recycle. Please, no CRT monitors or TV’s due to mercury gas. Collection will take place at the maintenance garage which is adjacent to the Ladies of Charity.

In addition to these sessions, there will be several “Regional High School Nights” to choose from and each school hosts an Open House. Information about these sessions will be discussed at the Middle School Parent Teacher Night on Wednesday, September 7.
HOLLYWOOD MARKET’S APPLES-TO-APPLES program is up and running. When shopping at any Hollywood Market location simply give the cashier our school’s name and St. Hugo will earn points to redeem at the end of the year to obtain educational supplies and equipment. A very easy way to support our school!
ATTENTION 3RD-8TH GRADE students! Do you like to sing? The St. Nicholas Choir begins October 11 and is a wonderful opportunity to not only learn about singing but to serve the Church, and to work as a team. The choir sings at the 10:00am Mass. Rehearsals are on Tuesday afternoons from 3:35pm-4:20pm or Sunday mornings from 11:10am-11:50am. For more information visit www.sthugo.org/94. * If your student has a fever, please know that St. Hugo follows the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines. Your student should be fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducing medication.
* When communicating any permanent methods of transportation to a teacher please do so in a note or an email. Using the “Going Home Another Way”, pre-printed notes can be very confusing.

HEARING SCREENING FOR grades 2 and 4 will take place on September 19 and 20 and screening for junior kindergarten and kindergarten will take place on October 5. If your child is not scheduled to be screened but you would like them to be, please complete the attached form and turn it in to the office.
It was an exciting weekend of athletics for all of the Viking teams. Good luck this season to the volleyball and soccer teams as several of those teams had their first games. Keep up the great effort! I have been impressed how the school is upgraded as a result of the PTG fundraising. All of our basketball hoops were completely redone and look brand new. The school Wi-Fi and bandwidth were strengthened this summer which will help long-term with technology capabilities. Mrs. Ryan is happy to share our password with parents that are frequently at school. These upgrades are a result of your hard work. Thank you! It was nice to meet so many kind middle school families this past Wednesday for the Middle School Meet the Faculty Night. The teachers gave a concise outline of their expectations for the year. I am looking forward to the K-5 Faculty Night at 7:00 on Wednesday, September 21 in the gym. Mr. Don and Mrs. Debbie Klein do a fantastic job scheduling morning parking lot duty. It is important for the safety of the students that parents are at their proper spots. Please make sure to attend the days you are assigned. The safety of our students is a top priority. A school has many important staff members. Mrs. Tedesco and Mrs. Grace do an outstanding job in the cafeteria. Mr. Winowiecki and Mrs. McLaughlin do a diligent job of keeping the students safe at recess. Mrs. Gulvezan does a great job with the Latchkey Program. St. Hugo of the Hills School has many excellent team players! Please come and support the Fun Run on Saturday. It is the second largest fundraiser for the school. It is a fun fundraising event for the whole family. You can come out for the event whether you run or not. I know that my family is looking forward to it!
